Marine Exhaust System
A. Silencers, Pipelines, Expansion Joints, Spray Devices, Exhaust Baffles
a. Dry-type Spark Arresting Silencer
Usage and Features
The dry-type spark arresting silencer is used in the exhaust pipeline of ship diesel engines. It can effectively extinguish sparks, reduce cabin noise, improve the quality of life for crew members, and protect the environment.
Specifications Table
| Nominal Diameter (DN) | Basic Dimensions (mm) | Sound Reduction Level | |
|---|---|---|---|
| L1 | L2 | dB | |
| DN150 | 2050 | 750 | 25dB |
| DN300 | 2900 | 1000 | 25dB |
| DN700 | 4200 | 1900 | 25dB |
b. Exhaust Pipe Spray Device
Usage and Features
The spray cooling device is used in the exhaust pipeline of ship diesel engines. It cools the exhaust pipeline and purifies the flue gas through circulating water (0.3~0.4MPa water source), and then discharges it to the outside of the ship through the exhaust pipe.
c. Exhaust Baffle
Usage and Features
The exhaust baffle is used in the exhaust pipeline of ship diesel engines. It is installed near the waterline of the ship’s hull pipeline to prevent seawater from entering the diesel engine through the pipeline when the engine stops, causing corrosion and damage to the engine cylinder.
The exhaust baffle is equipped with a cooling water sleeve, which can effectively take away the high temperature heat of the exhaust gas.

B. Wet-type Exhaust System
Usage and Features
The wet-type exhaust system uses the engine’s cooling water to spray into the engine exhaust pipe through a wet exhaust elbow, cooling the exhaust and eliminating engine noise.
The exhaust temperature of high-speed diesel main engines is very high, reaching 600°C or more; the higher the exhaust temperature, the greater the exhaust noise. In the past, many ships used dry exhaust systems, requiring complete thermal insulation of the exhaust pipeline, installation of expansion joints at every bend, complex installation, heavy weight, and high exhaust noise. Adopting a wet exhaust system can avoid the above shortcomings. The cooling water in the exhaust system sprays the engine cooling water, which can reduce the exhaust gas temperature to below 85°C, reduce the exhaust gas flow, greatly reduce the exhaust noise; using rubber hoses and water collection silencers in the exhaust system simplifies the design and manufacturing of the exhaust pipeline, greatly reduces the pipeline weight, improves the navigation speed, and can ensure corrosion resistance.
The wet exhaust system is an ideal choice for small high-speed boats.
