2. Ship Stainless Steel Capstan Key Specifications
2.1 Drive Systems
- Electric Drive: It offers a range of motor options, including 1 – speed, 2 – speed, and 3 – speed motors. These motors are available in both standard and explosion – proof variants, providing flexibility depending on the safety requirements of the operating environment. The standard motors are suitable for general marine applications, while the explosion – proof motors are ideal for areas where there is a risk of flammable gases or vapors.
- Hydraulic Drive: Features stepless variable speed control, allowing for smooth and precise adjustment of the capstan’s speed according to the specific operational needs. This is particularly useful in situations where fine – tuning of the speed is required for efficient anchoring or mooring.
- Power Range: The power output of our capstan ranges from 3 horsepower (HP) to 200 HP (equivalent to 2.2 kilowatts (kW) to 150 kW), enabling it to handle a wide variety of loads and tasks.
2.2 Load Capacity
- Working Load: The capstan can handle working loads ranging from 5 kilonewtons (kN) to 250 kN, which is equivalent to 0.5 to 25 metric tons. This wide range of working load capacity makes it suitable for different sizes of vessels and various anchoring or mooring scenarios.
- Peak Load: It is capable of withstanding a peak load that is 200% of its rated capacity for a duration of 30 minutes. This ensures that the capstan can handle sudden and unexpected increases in load without failing, providing an extra layer of safety during critical operations.
2.3 Chain Compatibility
- Diameter Range: The capstan is compatible with chains having a diameter range from 12.5 millimeters (mm) to 160 mm. This wide diameter range allows it to work with different types of anchor chains commonly used in the marine industry.
- Grade Compliance: It meets the AM2 to AM3 standards for chain grades, ensuring that the chains used with the capstan are of high quality and can withstand the stresses and strains of marine operations.
3. Construction Features
Material
Constructed using marine – grade stainless steel, specifically 316L or its equivalent. This type of stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, even in the harsh marine environment where it is constantly exposed to saltwater, moisture, and other corrosive elements. This ensures the long – term durability and reliability of the capstan.
Gearbox
The capstan is equipped with a helical – type gearbox that has an efficiency of at least 92%. The helical gear design provides smooth and quiet operation, while the high efficiency ensures that the power from the motor is effectively transferred to the capstan drum, resulting in optimal performance.
Brake System
- Manual Brake: Features a spring – applied, manual release brake system. The spring – applied mechanism ensures that the brake is automatically engaged when the power is cut off, providing a safe and reliable stopping mechanism. The manual release allows for easy operation and control when needed.
- Hydraulic Brake: Also offers an oil – immersed multi – disc hydraulic brake system. This type of brake provides high braking torque and is highly resistant to wear and tear. The oil – immersed design helps to dissipate heat generated during braking, ensuring consistent braking performance even under heavy loads.
4. Control & Automation
Operation Modes
- Local Lever Operation: Allows for direct and manual control of the capstan from a local position on the vessel. This is useful for simple and straightforward operations where precise control is required at the capstan location.
- Remote PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Operation: Enables remote control of the capstan from a central control panel on the vessel. This provides greater flexibility and convenience, especially for large vessels where the capstan may be located at a distance from the main control area.
Advanced Options
- Auto – tension Maintenance: The capstan can automatically maintain the tension of the anchor chain or mooring line, ensuring that the vessel remains securely anchored or moored at all times. This reduces the need for constant manual adjustment and improves the overall safety and efficiency of the operation.
- Rope Length/Speed Monitoring: Equipped with sensors to monitor the length and speed of the rope or chain being wound or unwound by the capstan. This real – time information allows the operator to accurately control the operation and make adjustments as needed.
- Load – limiting Sensors: These sensors detect the load on the capstan and can automatically stop the operation if the load exceeds the safe limit. This helps to prevent damage to the capstan and ensures the safety of the vessel and crew.
