2. Stainless Steel US Type Bow Shackles (Anchor Shackle)
The US Type Bow shackle is distinguished by its larger, rounded “bow” shape. This design allows it to handle multi-directional loads, making it the ideal choice for anchor shackle applications, lifting slings, and general rigging where the load may come from an angle.
-
Material: High-grade AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel.
-
Superior Design: The shackle pin is larger in diameter than the shackle body, providing an even heavier load capacity and increased shear strength compared to standard designs.
-
Versatility: Perfect for connecting multiple sling legs or components in a lifting assembly.
US Type Bow Shackle Specifications (Imperial Sizes)
| Size (inch) | Pin Dia D (inch) | W (inch) | H (inch) | WLL (tons) | Weight (lbs) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3/16 | 0.19 | 0.38 | 0.88 | 1/3 | 0.05 |

3. Large Bow Shackles BS3032 (Carbon Steel)
For the heaviest industrial lifting tasks, our Large Bow Shackles BS3032 are the ultimate choice. Manufactured to the rigorous British Standard, these shackles are built for extreme loads in ports, shipyards, power plants, and heavy construction projects.
-
Standard: Complies with BS3032 specifications.
-
Material: High-strength 45 carbon steel, chosen for its excellent tensile properties.
-
Process: Produced using the free forging process, which aligns the metal grain to withstand immense stress. The surface is kept in its original color with a protective coating.
-
Safety Factor: The MB proof load is tested to 2 times the Working Load Limit (WLL) , ensuring a significant margin of safety.
-
Applications: Ideal for port operations, power generation, shipbuilding, oil fields, and construction sites.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What is the difference between a “Bow” shackle and a “Dee” shackle?
The primary difference is in the shape and load application. A Bow shackle has a large, rounded body that can accept loads from multiple directions, making it ideal for multi-leg slings and general-purpose lifting where the load may shift. A Dee shackle (or chain shackle) has a narrower, symmetrical shape designed for straight-line, in-line loads only, such as when connecting chain links.
2. Which stainless steel grade is better for marine use: AISI 304 or AISI 316?
While both grades offer good corrosion resistance, AISI 316 stainless steel is superior for marine environments. It contains molybdenum, which provides enhanced resistance to chlorides (like saltwater) and industrial chemicals. For permanent installation on boats, docks, or in salt spray zones, AISI 316 is the recommended choice.
3. What does WLL mean, and how is it different from Breaking Load?
WLL stands for Working Load Limit. It is the maximum load that a shackle is designed to safely support in normal use. Breaking Load (or BL) is the point at which the shackle is expected to fail during a destructive test. The WLL is always significantly lower than the Breaking Load to provide a safety margin. For our BS3032 shackles, for example, the proof load is 2x the WLL, and the breaking load is even higher.
4. How do I choose the correct size shackle for my lifting chain or rope?
To choose the correct size, you must ensure the shackle’s WLL meets or exceeds the load you are lifting. Additionally, the jaw width (W) must be wide enough to accommodate the chain link, rope eye, or lug you are connecting. Finally, the pin diameter (d) must fit through the mating component’s hole. Always check the manufacturer’s dimension charts (like the ones above) to ensure a proper fit.
5. Can these shackles be used for overhead lifting applications?
Yes, but you must select the correct type and adhere to safety regulations. Our BS3032 Large Bow Shackles and US Type Bow Shackles are specifically designed for overhead lifting and rigging. It is critical to ensure the shackle is clearly marked with the WLL, that the pin is fully engaged and screwed in, and that the shackle is regularly inspected for wear, deformation, or damage before each use. Never exceed the stated WLL.
