Ballast Water Treatment Plant – IMO & USCG Certified BWMS System | UV Technology Solutions

Product Overview
Our Ballast Water Treatment Plant offers an advanced, environmentally responsible solution for ships seeking full compliance with international ballast water management regulations. Utilizing proven ultraviolet disinfection technology, our system provides chemical-free treatment that effectively eliminates invasive aquatic species while ensuring crew safety and operational efficiency. With type approvals from all major classification societies, our BWMS delivers reliable performance for both newbuild and retrofit vessel applications.

IMO Convention Compliance & Environmental Protection
The International Maritime Organization’s Ballast Water Management Convention (2004) entered into force on September 8, 2017, establishing crucial global standards for preventing the spread of invasive aquatic species through ships’ ballast water. Our Ballast Water Treatment Plant fully complies with IMO D-2 standards and US Coast Guard requirements, providing vessel operators with:

  • Complete regulatory compliance for global operations

  • Advanced protection against biological invasions

  • Environmental stewardship without compromising operational efficiency

  • Certified solutions meeting all international ballast water discharge standards

IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim emphasized: “This is a landmark step towards halting the spread of invasive aquatic species, which can cause havoc for local ecosystems, affect biodiversity and lead to substantial economic loss.”

Advanced UV Disinfection Technology
Our Ballast Water Treatment System employs state-of-the-art medium-pressure ultraviolet technology that offers significant advantages over chemical treatment methods:

Key Technological Advantages:

  • Chemical-Free Operation: No toxic chemicals, no crew exposure risks, no corrosive byproducts

  • Dual Operating Modes: Economy Mode automatically adjusts UV intensity based on water quality; Performance Mode provides enhanced treatment for stringent requirements

  • Environmental Safety: No secondary pollution or harmful disinfection byproducts

  • Adaptive Performance: Unaffected by water temperature, pH, or salinity variations

  • Built-in Safety Systems: Temperature monitoring and automatic shutdown protection

  • Self-Cleaning Mechanism: Automatic scale removal for maintenance-free operation

System Advantages & Competitive Benefits

Compared to Chemical Treatment Systems:

  • Enhanced crew safety with no chemical exposure risks

  • Eliminates explosion and corrosion hazards

  • Simplified operation and maintenance procedures

  • No secondary environmental pollution

  • Lower long-term operating costs

Compared to Conventional UV Systems:

  • Flexible design suitable for both newbuild and retrofit installations

  • Compact footprint with minimal space requirements

  • Future-proof technology adaptable to evolving regulations

  • Superior UV dosage flexibility for varying water conditions

  • Proven reliability with extensive fleet experience

Treatment Process Overview

Ballasting Operation:

  1. Primary Filtration: Ballast water passes through automatic self-cleaning filters removing organisms and solids >50μm

  2. UV Disinfection: Filtered water undergoes medium-pressure UV treatment eradicating plankton, bacteria, viruses, and larvae

  3. Clean Water Storage: Treated water is distributed to ballast tanks meeting IMO D-2 standards

Deballasting Operation:

  1. Tank Extraction: Water from ballast tanks bypasses filtration system

  2. Secondary UV Treatment: MPUV reactor provides final disinfection preventing secondary contamination

  3. Safe Discharge: Treated water meets all international standards for overboard discharge
