Operational Mechanism
The hot water tank receives cold freshwater from the vessel’s hydrophore or pressure tank. Depending on the available energy source on board, the water is then heated using either steam coils or electric heating elements. The system maintains a water pressure between 0.36 – 0.38 MPa to ensure smooth operation and a consistent supply of hot water throughout the ship.
Hot water is circulated as required, and a return interface enables unused hot water to re – enter the tank for reheating. This improves energy efficiency and minimizes waste, contributing to cost savings and environmental sustainability.
Piping Connections & System Integration
- Cold Water Inlet: Connects to the outlet of the freshwater pressure tank, ensuring a continuous supply of cold water to the tank.
- Hot Water Outlet: Delivers the heated water to the vessel’s hot water distribution system, providing hot water to various points of use.
- Water Return Interface: Links to the hot water return piping for recirculation, optimizing energy usage.
- Safety Valve Outlet: Redirects excess pressure to the bilge, preventing potential damage to the tank and the system.
- Discharge Outlet: Allows for complete drainage during maintenance, facilitating easy cleaning and inspection.
- Steam Inlet/Outlet: Connects to the ship’s steam supply and condensate return, enabling efficient steam – based heating.
